Quick Start

In this example, you will move one scene camera using Scene View, then return it to a stored pose.

  • Complete installation and resolve compilation errors.
  • Use a saved scene copy with one enabled Camera on an active GameObject, looking at useful geometry.
  • Use one Camera Tool instance. If the scene already has one, review camera setup instead of adding another.
  • Keep Scene View and Game View visible side by side.
  1. Save a copy of the scene. Place the camera at a pose you want to return to.
  2. Select Scene View once so it becomes the last active Scene View.
  3. Choose Forge3D > CameraTool > Auto setup. Unity selects the camera object to which the tool is added.
  4. In F3D Camera Tool (Script), confirm Primary camera: references your camera. Secondary camera: should be empty in this one-camera scene.
  5. Under Primary Follow options:, verify Position and Rotation are on. Under General settings:, verify Toggle key is C.
  6. Check that the custom Enabled control is off. It starts false in a fresh Editor domain, but automatic setup does not reset stale global state from an earlier tool instance. Clearing this checkbox stops the flag without restoring a camera pose.
  7. Click Primary Store origin while the camera is still at the intended return pose. Check the Stored origin: values. Leave Self align and Match Scene to Game off for this first exercise.

Expected result: Primary is assigned, both follow channels are on, and a real return pose is stored. Automatic setup alone does not store an origin.

  1. Focus Scene View and press C without Shift to activate the tool.
  2. The hotkey can move focus to Game View. Refocus Scene View before navigating if needed.
  3. Use Unity’s usual Scene View navigation to change the view. Primary follows its world position and rotation, with a fixed 0.1-unit backward position offset.
  4. With Self align still off, focus Scene View and press C again to stop following. The camera is left at its last followed pose.

Expected result: the scene camera moves with Scene View while active and stops following after deactivation. Game View framing can differ because camera optics and projection are unchanged.

  1. Click Primary Align to origin.
  2. Verify that the camera has returned to the world position and rotation you stored. This button also clears Enabled.
  3. Save the scene if this is the state you want to retain.

Do not use Undo as a substitute for the stored pose or your saved scene copy. Undo is unreliable for setup, field edits, Store, and Align.

Use Camera setup for a second camera, Origins and restoration for Self align and Match Scene to Game, and Controls and navigation for Game View behavior. If the camera does not move, start with the troubleshooting checklist.
