FAQ

The base package provides the meshes, textures and prefabs with Built-in assets. The URP template overwrites shaders, materials and the demo scene at the same paths. Import the base first and the matching template second. See Installation.

No ASE installation is needed to use the supplied compiled shaders and materials with the configuration described in this guide. ASE is relevant when you want to author or edit the shader graphs.

It provides authored planet prefabs and material-driven effects. It does not include a dedicated runtime planet generator, seed controller, terrain sculpting system or orbital API. Use Unity’s Transform and Material APIs for your own application behavior.

Yes. Choose the renderer and material slot, create a material instance when you need an independent look, and use Unity’s Material API with the exact property IDs. See Runtime materials.

Why did changing one planet change another?

Section titled “Why did changing one planet change another?”

They share a material asset. Duplicate it and assign the copy to the intended renderer. A duplicated prefab can still reference the same original materials. See Materials and customization.

The Sun material creates a visible stellar surface. Add a separate Unity Light to illuminate planets and other objects. Corona and city/lighting emission are visual effects, not spawned scene lights.

Terrestrial, Oceanic and Sand cloud controls are part of their surface shaders. Their shadows are texture-based shaping. The atmosphere is a separate shell effect. See Planet prefabs.

Can I replace the supplied mesh with a Unity sphere?

Section titled “Can I replace the supplied mesh with a Unity sphere?”

Start from the supplied mesh to preserve UVs, tangent data, origin and shell relationships. Replacing it is a custom integration step: cloud mapping and radial ring mapping can depend on that data. See Technical reference.

Those names remain in the URP template. They do not mean the material belongs to the separate Planets HDRP product. Confirm the correct template and project pipeline instead.

Does this guide cover Unity 6, HDRP or 8K textures?

Section titled “Does this guide cover Unity 6, HDRP or 8K textures?”

It covers the non-Unity-6 URP template with Unity 2022.3/URP 14. The Unity 6 template, separate HDRP product and separate 8K texture product are outside its scope. Use the requirements supplied with your package for those configurations.

Can I assume mobile, WebGL or XR support from this guide?

Section titled “Can I assume mobile, WebGL or XR support from this guide?”

This guide supplies a Windows/D3D11 baseline, not a cross-platform support promise. Check the requirements for your purchased release and evaluate a representative build on the target device. See Performance considerations.

The existing Changelog preserves historical release notes. It is not a statement that every historical setup instruction applies to the URP configuration described here. Use Installation for this guide’s import workflow.
